Victim Assistance Organizations Invited to Display Resources at 2009 NCVRW Event
On April 24, 2009, at 6:30 p.m., OVC will hold its annual National Observance and Candlelight Ceremony at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, located at 1615 H Street, NW, Washington, DC, as one of its prelude events to the 2009 National Crime Victims’ Rights Week. This observance pays tribute to crime victims and survivors across the Nation. The featured speaker will be Quincy Arrianna Lucas, Homicide co-victim and founder of Witney's Lights, Inc.
A resource room at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce will be open to the public from 5:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. OVC would like to extend the opportunity to seven local and seven national victim assistance organizations to display their resources in an effort to raise the public’s awareness about the victim assistance services available in the Washington D.C. , Metro area (DC, MD, and VA). Organizations may apply individually or as a coapplicant with another organization. The resource tables will be available at no charge, but it will be the responsibility of the organizations to bring materials, set them up, and take them away no later than 8:00 p.m. For local organizations, OVC will give first consideration to VOCA-funded agencies. OVC will also take into consideration the range of representation to ensure that informational resources are available for victims of sexual assault, family violence, child abuse, drunk driving crashes, and white collar crime, as well as survivors of homicide victims. OVC will make the final selections.
